Aiming to tell a truer story…
‘I am’ statements can be a fraught undertaking. What’s the most important thing for you to know about me? I am beloved of God — and not of my own doing. No, in spite of all I’ve done and been, this is a gift of God, simply received. (Ephesians 2:8).
I am also a writer, a mother of going-on-three kids, a wife to one long-suffering man and a member of a little Bible church not far from big Washington, D.C. I was saved as a little girl growing up in Kansas, went to college in Oklahoma (boomer!) and moved with my Navy husband to one coast and then the other.
For more than a decade, I’ve been writing full-time as a freelance and staff journalist, covering mostly food, farming and environmental topics. My Christian faith has long been a silent backdrop to my journalistic work, urging me to carry it out with integrity and faithfulness.
I have wrestled for a few years now with a desire to write more about the God who consumes my thoughts and days in increasing measure. I’ve tried to outrun these aspirations—tried desperately to hoard this writing thing for myself—but God’s pursuit of us is relentless and tender. I thought teaching Bible studies and discipling women in my local church context would scratch the itch, so to speak, but it seems to have only fanned the flame.
This website is my, “Here I am.” May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. (Psalm 19:14 NLT)
You’ll find here the essays, articles, poems, prayers and book musings of a writer who’s stretching her legs in a new way—and is grateful for every word you take the time to read.
